Things that I did during practicum

Assalamualaikum people!

Post ini berbentuk educational sket, mungkin sedikit pelik bagi sesape yang tak amek bidang ni kot tapi since Lina requested untuk post ni so saya pun buat lah post ni untuk beliau. Hi Lina! I'm not sure these tips would work in your class, but you may try it if you want. It works for me, well..at least for my 3 months practicum. Hikhik.

The tips:
1. Sebelum masuk kelas yang da di-assigned tu, it's a good idea to interview the class teacher of that particular class. Or at least teachers who used to teach that class. Get to know the students from the teacher's perspective first but don't be soooo judgemental after you heard the stories from the teacher okey? Keep positive. Identify the troublemakers, smart kids, slow learners and perhaps the special students who might need extra time with you. Don't forget to write down their names. Berguna untuk masa depan!

2. Bila masuk kelas on first day, sila lah appear as a firm, strict teacher. Pastikan yang your kids taw that you are in charge in that particular class. Ini penting sebab bila awal awal kita appear to be cikgu yang baik hati, yang sweet sweet ape sume, kompem dorang naik kepala. Inilah nasihat yang saya dapat from my lecturers dalam bengkel before pegi praktikum. Tapi bila da lama lama tu, bila da established relationship dengan students tu, bleh la relax sket. Jangan la garang tiap masa. Boleh je nak bergurau, nak berlawak dengan dorang after that. Garang tiap masa pun tak kool jugak kannn. Tol tak tol tak?

3. Lagi satu perkara yang perlu di set up masa first day masuk kelas tu ialah rules. Contoh rules dalam kelas boleh jadi macam ni:

If you want to talk, ask or answer any questions, you'll have to raise up your hands.

As simple as that. Boleh jgak tanya students, just in case dorang nak tambah pape rules untuk kelas tu ke. Kira nak mengamalkan demokrasi dalam kelas lah. Make sure you apply the rules in that class. Nanti bebudak ingat cikgu ni cam tak amek cyes lak, so maken menjadi lak perangai dorang.

4. You can also prepare noise level meter macam kat bawah ni. Or boleh jugak set up hand signals, macam angkat tangan means they have to keep quite ke. I did that one for my Year 4 class, tapi last last lupa nak apply. End up bebudak yang ingatkan saya untuk angkat tangan bila kelas terlalu bising. Kehkehkeh.

5. Another thing that you could do is set up reward and punishment system. Mesti da blaja kan dalam kelas pasal menda ni? Untuk reward tu, boleh je buat sistem macam bagi buku/some sort of pasport kat dorang then dorang kena collect brapa banyak cop untuk dapatkan hadiah dari cikgu ke. Boleh jugak sediakan adiah kecil untuk Best Students in class untuk tiap bulan ke. Bagi certificate for their good behaviour ke. Ikut creativity lah. Kalau macam masa praktikum aritu, saya suka start kelas dengan main language games. Simple simple pnye je pun. And kadang kadang bila abes kelas lah, kitorg akan main satu game. Kalau dorang tak behave, saya takkan main pape game dalam kelas tu. Tu je lah. Simple je kan?

6. Paling  pentingggggggggggg skali..prepare interesting lesson that suites their level. Kenapa saya cakap ni penting skali? Sebab kalau dorang terlalu occupied with our lesson, dorang tak sempat pun nak wat hal sangat dalam kelas. Kalau stakat bising tu, biasa lah..bebudak memang tak leh brenti bercakap pnye. Educational noise is okay, maknanya dorang participate dalam lesson kita lah kan which means lesson kita tu tak bosan lah. Haa..bgitulah.

So smua tips ni based on my experience masa praktikum last year, kalau tersalah atau terkurang tu maaf lah sebab saya sendiri pun blom tol tol mengajar lagi. Tapi kalau ada yang rasa macam boleh pakai dalam kelas,  ce try lah camtu. Saya men try and error jugak dalam kelas ni. Hope this helps. Any questions, bleh je tanya lagi. Thanx for reading! ^^
